After checking out the popular photos on 500px.com, I’ve noticed — but am not surprised — that people love glamour shots and nudes (nice photos are easy when you have pretty models); high contrast shots of old, weathered faces; macros of water droplets; animals; landscapes (including sunsets); and way too much HDR (gimmick du jour), especially of landscapes.

It seems odd to find shells out in the arid lands of the west side of the San Joaquin Valley, until you remember that this area used to be part of a huge lake, and even thousands of years before that, an inland ocean.

It’s been a busy week. I’ve been shooting photos at a local dance studio in exchange for classes as I can’t afford them as I have in the past. Dance is the only form of exercise I’ve ever really enjoyed, mostly because it doesn’t seem like exercise. It’s the perfect marriage of form and function, art and athleticism.
